How to Test Air Vents for Mold

Mold in your house is a dangerous health concern, especially if someone inside is already suffering from respiratory problems. While finding mold on a wall is as simple as noticing its physical presence on the wall, testing an air vent for mold requires some knowledge on the best methods. Whether you bring in help or tackle the problem yourself, the quicker you can find the mold, the sooner you can get rid of it.

Instructions

  1. Testing for Mold in the Air

    • 1

Buy a mold testing kit from a home supply store that tests for mold on surfaces.

    • 2

Stick the pieces of tape that come with the kit sticky side down on four different surface areas inside of the air vent.

    • 3

Pull the pieces of tape up and fold each piece over, sticky side against sticky side, so that any possible mold gets trapped in the clear tape.

    • 4

Place each piece of tape in its own plastic bag.

    • 5

Send the bags to the testing lab listed on the package, or to one of the mold testing labs listed in the Resource below.
