How to Vent a Portable Air Conditioner With Andersen Windows

A portable air conditioner can be vented out an Anderson double hung window anywhere in the house. The vent system used for the air conditioner comes with everything that you need to add the venting to the window without making any alterations. It only takes a half hour or less to add the vent to the window before you will have the air conditioner up and running.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the supplies from the vent kit. There will be an exhaust adapter, hose and a window shield with an exhaust opening

    • 2

Open the window. Place the window shield up to the window. This is a long piece of harder vinyl material that fits in the window from side to side to block bugs and other intruders from getting in while venting the air conditioner. The shield has an exhaust opening at one end. If the shield is too wide, use a scissors to cut it to the width of the Anderson window.

    • 3

Place the shield in the window and close the window down on top of the shield. This will secure the shield in place.

    • 4

Connect the exhaust adapter to the exhaust vent on the window shield. Connect the hose to the exhaust adapter. Connect the hose to the back of the air conditioner.

    • 5

Keep the hose as straight as possible and not coiled up when venting to the outside. If the hose is too long, it can be cut down so that it is not in the way. Turn on the air conditioner.
