Allow the professionals to clean the vents. The air service provider will open access ports and doors to allow the entire system to be cleaned and inspected, protect the carpet and furniture with a plastic tarp, check for harmful materials in your heating and cooling systems, vacuum and scrub the inside of the air ducts and use a sealant to keep all of your vents free from outside particles.
Leave the spraying to the professionals. The professionals will use a biocide chemical that has the ability to kill living organisms in vents, agriculture and the human body. The professionals will apply the biocide into the vent with a garden-type sprayer. The application will be sprayed evenly throughout the duct system from at least 8 feet away, because spraying the biocide evenly is essential to the results.
Turn on the vent 30 minutes after the application process then leave your house. Go out for the day to let the biocide chemical settle in the vents. Leave your some of your windows open to air out the house. (See Reference 1 & 3)
