How to Inspect a Mobile Home for Leaks

It's time to inspect your mobile home for leaks. Possibly, you have noticed a decrease in your water pressure or you have water running onto your lawn from underneath your mobile home. When inspecting a mobile home for leaks it's important to inspect inside and out. If you do not inspect under the home, you could miss a potentially serious leak. Look at the ceiling in the mobile home to verify it if leaks. Commonly, ceilings are painted white allowing you to visually notice a leak. If the ceiling has brown, gray or yellowish looking circles, your mobile home has roof leak.

Turn on the water in the kitchen, bathroom and laundry room. Open the doors under the kitchen sink, bathroom sink and laundry room sink. Check to see if this area contains pools of water. Look at the pipes and notice if they drip water

    • 3

Look around the toilet for water. You may wish to use a rag and gently wipe the water supply lines from the back of the toilet. The area around your toilet should not contain small pools of water.

Verify your mobile home windows do not leak by visually looking at the interior and exterior windows. Typically, if your mobile home windows leak, you will notice rotten or damaged wood and siding.

    • 5

Stand in front of both exterior doors to notice any leaking. Look at the floor, and around the door for any damage. Feel the floor underneath the door and around the door-frame for soft, spongy wood. If you have soft, spongy wood, your door leaks.

Crawl under the mobile home with your flashlight to inspect for leaks. Typically, mobile homes sit on a cement pad or have plastic on the ground under them. If you notice any small pools of water, your plumbing lines leak. Turn on the water inside the home before crawling under it, to check for leaking pipes.
