How to Set the Air Registers in a House

Every house should have a ventilation system to supply it with conditioned air and to circulate it. The air register vents are places over the ducts and set in various places throughout the house according to local building codes. Floor vents are simply set into the floors vent opening over the top of the ducts. Ceiling and wall registers are attached to the sheetrock over the ducts with screws holding them in place.

Instructions

For floor vents, set the lip of the register into the opening in the floor itself. The cover of the air register should be close to flush with the floor itself. These are almost always held in place with just gravity and the lip of the register and are not required to be attached with screws.

For ceiling vents, the register will again have a lip on the inside. Place the register over the vent opening positioned where you want it. Mark the location of the holes on the registers frame with a sharp pencil or nail pressed into the sheetrock so that the marks can be seen. Remove the register and set aside.

Use the drill and bit to drill pilot holes for the wall anchors into the wall or ceiling. Push the anchors into these pilot holes and knock them flush with the hammer.

Place the register back into place with the mounting holes in the frame positioned over the wall anchors set in the sheetrock. Screw the register into place with the screws provided with the register.
