Do Simpson Dura Vent Pipes Need to Be Sealed?

Simpson Dura-Vent manufactures several types of vent pipe in accordance with laws on different types of heating systems. Some of the systems are pellet stoves, wood-burning fireplaces and gas-burning appliances.
  1. Direct Vent

    • Direct vent systems made by Simpson Dura-Vent are designed for use with direct vent stoves, heaters and fireplaces. This company's direct vent systems are laser welded and do not require gaskets or sealants.

    Pipes

    • Simpson Dura-Vent pipes feature a fully unitized twist-lock construction. Use of sealants is optional unless specified by the appliance manufacturer. Dura-vent pipes come in several lengths to provide you with the length you need. All pieces twist-lock together to form a tight seal.

    Sealants

    • Although sealants for Dura-Vent pipe pieces are not usually necessary, sealants for other parts may be required. Anchor plates require a non-hardening and high-temperature sealant rated at a minimum of 1,000 degrees fahrenheit. The same sealant can be used for the flashing. Seal the uphill part and two sides of the flashing, leaving the bottom unsealed.
