How to Assemble a Ventilation Conduit

Ventilation conduit, or ventilation ducting, is metal conduit used to move air from one area of a building to another, as in a heating and air-conditioning system. Ventilation conduit is usually made of aluminum. Connecting sections of conduit together and sealing them properly helps the air maintain both speed and temperature. This is especially important for long sections of conduit.

Things You'll Need

  • Two sections of ventilation conduit
  • Ventilation tape

Instructions

    • 1

Place both sections of conduit on the floor, end to end. The ends of the sections are designed to connect together. Align the ends of the conduit sections and push one into the other until the sections are joined together. Be sure to push the sections together as far as they will go. This will help form a better seal between the two conduit sections.

    • 2

Open the ventilation sealant and spread it evenly along the joint between the two conduits. Include the area 2-inches on both sides of the conduit joint. This will increase the sealing area of the joint for a better seal.

    • 3

Wrap ventilation tape all the way around the conduit joint. Be sure to cover the entire area over which you placed sealant. After the sealant has dried, the joint is complete.
