How to Crimp a 3-Inch Vent Pipe

Some 3-inch vent pipes come with the end already crimped so that you can insert the end of one pipe into the end of another pipe. In some cases, though, the vent pipe either doesn’t come with a crimped end or you altered the size of the pipe, cutting off the crimped end. When the vent pipe doesn’t have a crimped end, you can crimp the end yourself with a crimping tool so that you can join two pipes together.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the pipe securely with your hand about a foot away from the area you want to crimp.

    • 2

Slide the crimper over the end of the pipe so that the edge of the pipe fits between the fingers on the crimper. Two fingers should be on the inside of the pipe and three fingers on the outside.

    • 3

Squeeze the handles of the crimper together to create the crimping on the edge of the vent pipe.

    • 4

Slide the crimper over, lining up the last bottom finger with the end of the first crimp. Squeeze the handles to make the next set of crimping.

    • 5

Continue around the entire 3-inch vent pipe to create a fully crimped end that will fit into the end of an uncrimped pipe.
