How to Weatherize a Metal Table

Metal tables are popular for outdoor patios because they can endure most any kind of weather, cannot be blown away and give any patio a rustic feel. Instructions

    • 1

Apply rust remover to any rusty areas and scrub rust free with a scrub brush. Immediately rinse the rust off with cold water and dry with a clean rag.

    • 2

Clean the entire table with warm, soapy water (dish detergent). Wipe any surface residue from the table with the soapy wet sponge. This will eliminate any impurities that could keep the weatherizing agent from working effectively.

    • 3

Dry off the whole table with a clean rag. You don't want the table rusting before you can apply the anti-rust agent. Make sure every part is clean before moving to the next step.

    • 4

Gently sand the surface of the entire table. This will create small, corrugated grooves to help the weatherizer stick more efficiently.

    • 5

Paint the rustproof stain, paint or primer onto the entire table. Evenly coat and make sure your brush strokes are all in the same direction. Keep the table out of the rain or bad weather for at least 24 hours while the paint dries.
