Assess the water damage to the gravel road. Even out the grade of the road with a metal rake. Push loose gravel into dips and potholes to even the surface.
Pour new gravel around dips and potholes where the gravel road is still not even or if too much gravel has washed away. Smooth out the new gravel as in Step 1 with a metal rake or shovel until the road is level.
Firmly tap down the gravel with a wood bolster or scrap wood that is heavy and flat. The tapping down will set the gravel into the road and helps lock it in place. Take care not to strike the gravel too hard, as you may crush or splinter the stone.
Slope the gravel road slightly away from the center and to the edges. Follow the natural grade of the land to help with future water flow. The slight slope will channel water out and away from the gravel, leaving less of a chance for pooling.
