Install markers. Before the first snowfall, install stakes at the edges of your driveway. These will keep you from digging up the grass with a plow or snow-blower.
When you clear your driveway, also clear a spot along the road. If you clear a few feet leading to your driveway, snow plows will deposit most of the snow in that spot and not at the end of your driveway.
Before it begins snowing, plan where to put the snow you clear from your driveway. Remember you can't clear the snow into the road. You may want to coordinate with your neighbors if the driveways are close together.
Make a backup plan. Get the contact information for a plowing contractor who does one-time plowings. If you're sick or your equipment fails, you need someone you can call to clear the snow from your driveway.
