How to Mount a Snow Plow on a ATV

One of the advantages of mounting a snow plow on an all terrain vehicle (ATV) as opposed to mounting the plow on a lawn tractor is that you gain traction. Whereas a lawn tractor snow blade mount will certainly require tire chains and a couple of 40-pound suitcase sized weights, an ATV is already geared up for off-road and many won't require any ballast weight. Another advantage is you don't have to remove a mower assembly first.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the ATV's bumper valance from the front of the frame. Keep it for when you remove the snow plow.

    • 2

Position the mounting assembly on the ATV. Attach it with the included bolts, washer and nuts. Attach the snow plow hardware to the mounting assembly--the blade itself. Use the instruction sheet that came with the blade for specific details.

    • 3

Slide the jack stand through the bottom of the lift frame, spring and jack lever. Attach the lift frame to the clevis frame. Twist the handle so the pins engage. The spring-loaded pin should snap into place locking the lift frame to the clevis frame.

    • 4

Attach the lift arm to the lift frame using included pivot pins, washer and cotter pins.

    • 5

Install any hydraulic system using the instructions that came with it. Install any optional lighting you may want.

    • 6

Attach the lift chain to the lift arm through the hook on the lift arm. Adjust the lift chain so there's some slack---two to three links. The slack provides lift so the blade follows the contour of the ground when plowing.
