How to Mount a Plow on a Truck

Snow plows are usually removed and mounted on a truck as a complete assembly. The blade, quadrant and A-frame can be mounted together which keeps things simple. The lift-mount assembly can remain on the truck. It's always a good idea to plow during a snow storm rather than letting snow build up and freeze, so it's a good idea to monitor weather forecasts and try to mount the plow early, in fair weather--preferably during daylight hours.

Instructions

    • 1

Position the vehicle behind the plow so the ears on the A-frame are in line with the coupling lugs on the mount.

    • 2

Hook the chain to the lift channel. Pull the lock spool up and out of the cross slots. Raise the lift channel with the control until the ear holes align with the lug holes on the mount. Use hitch pins and hairpin cotters to hold everything.

    • 3

      Connect any hoses.

    • 4

Move the control lever to the lowest position and then move it to the floating position. Push the lift channel all the way down. Pull the chain tight and hook it to the lift channel.

    • 5

Test the control lever to make sure the blade raises, lowers and angles.

    • 6

Move the plow light switch from factory lights to plow lights.

    • 7

Place the truck in four wheel drive and park the truck facing out.
