How to Start a Craftsman Snow Thrower

Starting a Craftsman snow thrower can be tricky. The steps to start your snow thrower are straight-forward and simple, but small motors, such as the ones on most Craftsman snow throwers, are sometimes fickle. Snow thrower engines will start, but will sometimes take a few pulls of a cord or button pressures before they turn over.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the key into the ignition switch.

    • 2

Turn off all auger and speed controls. The thrower won't turn on until they are off for safety reasons.

    • 3

Push the choke button into full choke. To lock the choke into the full position, a sticker will say "full choke."

    • 4

Press the primer button on the motor the recommended three times. More presses may result in the motor becoming flooded with fuel, causing the motor to not start for some time.

    • 5

Grab the pull cord on the motor and yank on the cord. Sometimes it takes more than one pull to get the thrower working. If you have an electric start snow thrower, press the electric starter on the control panel. Don't hold the button more than a few seconds as it can put pressure on the starting mechanism.
