How to Use the Electric Start on an Ariens Snowblower

Ariens of Wisconsin can trace its roots back to the 1930s when it began making farm equipment. It began snow blower production in 1960. As of 2010, Ariens makes a full line of lawn equipment and snow blowers. A snow blower clears your walk or driveway by way of a spiral shaped blade at the front of the machine that is turned by a gasoline engine. The controls for speed and the blade rotation are located on the rear handles and can be set as the operator walks behind the machine. Convenient electric starting means no pull-starting on cold mornings.

Instructions

    • 1

Attach an extension cord to the prongs on your machine's starter motor. Plug the cord into a 120 volt or 240 volt 3 wire grounded receptacle.

    • 2

Turn the discharge chute straight ahead and disengage the traction clutch (left hand lever) and the drive clutch (right hand lever).

    • 3

Push the rubber primer bulb three times to prime the carburetor with fuel in temperatures above -15 degrees Fahrenheit. Push the bulb more as needed in temperatures below -15 degrees Fahrenheit.

    • 4

Place the key into the ignition switch on the engine and push it to the “Run” position. Do not turn the key.

    • 5

Pull out the choke knob and push the throttle lever to the “start” position. Depress the starter button. Push the choke lever in partially once the engine is running.

    • 6

Unplug the power cord from the receptacle first, and then the starter second. Place the extension cord aside.

    • 7

Adjust the throttle to a slower speed and push the choke knob in completely once the engine has warmed up.
