Remove any extra gas and oil mixture left in the tank. Two-cycle snow throwers take an oil and gas mixture. Four-cycle snow throwers have separate holders for oil and gas. Under the motor, a small screw sits under a hard plastic container. This is a drain plug. Place a pan on the ground under the screw. Unscrew the plug and drain the mixture into the pan and dispose of it properly. The gas and oil mixture should be drained at the end of each season to avoid corrosion. Once the snowy season begins next year, fill the snow thrower with new fuel.
Replace the spark plugs located on the side of the motor. Part of the plug will be visible as it sits inside a black rubber casing. Pop the casing off and the plug can be easily pulled out. Slide a new plug in and place the hose onto the plug. This will help your engine start during very cold days.
Lubricate all sprockets, gears and chains by unscrewing the back cover of the motor with a Phillips screwdriver. Every section must be lubricated so that nothing cracks during operation.
Grease the shear pins located in the center of the auger blades in the front of the machine. Pop the pins out of the center with your hand and squirt lubricating oil into the holes to prevent cracks.
