Pros & Cons of Snow Throwers

Snow throwers are used to clear driveways, paths and sidewalks after snowfall. They come in electric- and gasoline-powered models, with pros and cons for each type of snow thrower.
  1. Electric-Powered Model Pros

    • Electric-powered models are affordable and easy to store in the home. They are quick to start, due to being plugged in, and are lightweight enough for most people to use easily. They are economical and do not cause pollution due to carbon emissions.

    Electric-Powered Model Cons

    • Electric models are not as rugged as gasoline-powered snow throwers and cannot handle heavy snowfalls. The electric cords are not always long enough to reach the entire property and should not be used with an extension cord. They run only a short time before they risk becoming overheated.

    Gasoline-Powered Model Pros

    • Gasoline-powered show throwers are rugged, durable and can handle heavy snowfalls. They have a long running time and can go anywhere due to being cordless.

    Gasoline-Powered Model Cons

    • Gas-powered models can be hard to start, as you must start them by pulling a cord in a manner similar to starting an outboard motor. Storing gas for the model can be difficult and hazardous. These models are noisy, and people object to the smell and the gas fumes polluting the environment.
