How to Replace the Shear Pin on Ariens Snow Blowers

Ariens began as a company in 1930s during the Great Depression. According to the company history, during the 1930s it "responded to the need for greater food production with the invention and development of the multi-row Tillivator which became the first power take-off unit for tractors cultivating from 4-16 rows at a time." Other landscaping machines followed, including snow blowers. When the shear pin of the snow blower breaks, you can replace it yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

      Turn off the snow blower.

    • 2

Tilt the snow blower so that the auger is off the ground.

    • 3

Turn the auger with your hand until the holes for the auger are lined up. These holes are located on either side of the shaft's middle.

    • 4

Drive a new shear pin into the hole. If the shear pin is broken, then the new shear pin can drive the old, broken pin out. Use a hammer to drive the shear pin.
