How to Shovel a Metal Roof

Any type of roof, including metal, can be severely ravaged by snow, particularly in the northern climates. Snow in these areas can be severe and can put a great deal of weight on the roof of any house or building. Removing the snow from a metal roof is the first step toward preventing leaking into the house and keeping the inside safe for everyone. There are a few techniques for shoveling a metal roof, and any homeowner will have no trouble removing snow and anything else from it

Instructions

    • 1

Lay out the pieces of the roof rake and begin assembling them by twisting the poles together for the desired amount of extension. Attach the top of the roof rake to end of the pole and go outside to either side of the house to begin shoveling the metal roof.

    • 2

Lift the roof rake up to the roof and stand back far enough so the snow does not fall on you when it is shoveled. Reach the rake to the top of the roof and begin shoveling straight down to remove the snow. Bring the rake to the bottom edge of the roof in a straight line to remove the first row of snow.

    • 3

Go over the area again to remove more of the snow that may remain. Move over to the next section and make a straight line down the roof once again. Go over it a second time and continue moving down the roof shoveling off all the snow.

    • 4

Shovel until the end of the front side of the house is reached and repeat the same process for the back of the house. Add more extensions to the pole if necessary to reach the top of the roof in certain places.

    • 5

Look over the roof once both sides are complete to make sure nothing remains and shovel off any areas that still have snow or other debris on them.
