ATV Plow Instructions

An ATV has four-wheel-drive capabilities and is designed to maneuver over slippery, muddy or snowy terrain. An ATV makes a solid snow-removing machine when equipped with a plow. To use the plow on the ATV, become acquainted with the pitch controls with the plow blade and the controls for reverse and forward with the ATV. Make sure to wear a helmet when riding the ATV to prevent injury.

Instructions

    • 1

Position the ATV blade so it is 1/2 inch to 1 inch above the ground. Dip the plow blade into the snow slowly until it touches the ground and then bring it up to the desired height above the terrain. The controls to control the blade pitch are mounted to the left of the handlebars. Most plow controls look like a knob in a plus sign. Push the knob up to raise the blade, down to lower and right or left to adjust the blade angle to the ground.

    • 2

Place the ATV into first gear and slowly push one full blade's length of snow up and into a snow bank. Back up the ATV push another blade length of snow, keeping a foot of overlap between the two. Continue the initial passes of the area until the first layer of snow is removed.

    • 3

Push the blade control to either the right or left to position the blade to a 20 degree angle to the front of the ATV. Lower the blade until it is just barely above the terrain. Place the ATV into first gear and slowly plow the icy remains of the area. As you back up, keep the blade down and use the backside to further scrape ice and snow.

    • 4

Pull the ATV up to the front of the snowbank and push the knob all the way right to make the farthest angle possible with the blade. Put the ATV into first gear and plow the edges of the snowbank up to make the bank edges less jagged.

    • 5

Put the blade into the straight-forward position and 2 feet above the ground when finished plowing for the day.
