How do I Troubleshoot an Auger Control on a Yard Machine Snowblower?

Snowblowers use an auger to feed snow to an impeller fan at the center of the housing. The snow is then passed to the discharge chute which controls the direction and height of snow discharge. A crank rod lowers and raises the chute, and a chute tilt handle pivots the chute to control angle and distance of snow discharge. The auger speed is controlled by engine speed. Problems with auger control can be related to the engine. Auger control problems can be rectified by troubleshooting.

Instructions

    • 1

Move the throttle lever to the full throttle position if the auger isn't spiraling fast enough. Maximum snow removal and discharge will be obtained by getting the auger to spiral quickly. The auger will spiral quickest at full throttle and a high RPM.

    • 2

Select a lower gear if the snow blower travels too fast. The direct result of increasing RPM's to increase auger speed will be that the ground speed will be increased too. Slow the ground speed by selecting first gear.

    • 3

Control the auger further by using the clutch if the auger appears uncontrollable. Drive forward into the snow and press the clutch/brake pedal until the auger has time to clear the snow. Then, release the clutch/brake and move forward a bit more.

Repeat the previous step until the path is cleared.
