How to Make Ice Melt Fastest

If your driveway has a thick layer of ice that is preventing you from leaving the house safely, you will need to find a way to melt the ice quickly. Because very hot water is not always readily available for all driveways, you can melt the ice using a salt and calcium chloride mixture that melts the ice quicker than any other available mix. The calcium chloride mixture can be found in home improvement stores and online.

Instructions

    • 1

Spread a thin, even layer of the calcium chloride mixture over the entire icy area.

    • 2

Allow the mixture to rest on the ice for one hour.

    • 3

Gently break apart the ice with a shovel and clear away any chunks that can be easily removed.

    • 4

Add another layer of the calcium chloride mixture if the layer of ice was too thick to melt completely during the first hour. Let it sit for another hour and clear away the remaining ice chunks.
