How to De-Ice Bricks

Extend the life of your bricks by using non-abrasive deicers to remove pesky ice. Whether it is winter or cold year-round, there are several solutions to de-ice bricks. Bricks are used for exterior walls as well as walkways. Unfortunately, shoveling snow and ice is not a viable option for either location. By spraying a table salt and urea solution, you can safely remove ice from your bricks.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Pour 5 cups of liquid urea and 1 cup of table salt into a liquid sprayer.

    • 2

Mix the solution with a wooden rod until the table salt completely dissolves.

    • 3

Wear protective goggles, mask and gloves. The solution irritates the eyes and skin if you make direct contact.

    • 4

Spray the bricks with the solution. Let the solution melt the ice for 10 minutes.

    • 5

Spread a thin layer of sand or sawdust if you have a brick walkway. This reduces the slipperiness of the walkway.
