How to Remove Ice From Driveways and Walkways

Cold weather months often lead to the accumulation of snow and ice on your property. To keep your family members and neighbors safe from a slip or fall, it is important to remove the ice and keep your walkways and driveways clear. Instructions

    • 1

Shovel off as much snow and ice as possible and discard it off to the side of the walkway or driveway.

    • 2

Sprinkle salt over the walkways and sidewalks. Toss handfuls of either rock salt or plant salt across the areas, moving slowly so you do not slip on the ice. Plant salts are typically labeled eco-friendly and are less harmful to surrounding vegetation.

    • 3

Sprinkle a light dusting of sand or fireplace ashes over the walkways and driveways for a gripping traction element that will prevent slips.
