How to Start a John Deere 724D Snowblower

John Deere made a name for himself in 1837 designing agricultural equipment for farmers in the Midwest. Through the Civil War, World War I and II, and the Great Depression, the company has prevailed, constantly expanding their line of products. The John Deere 724D snowblower lessens the load after a heavy snowstorm, clearing the path without wrenching your back. Starting your snowblower in extremely cold weather may require additional motor cranking to get it going, but the extra effort pays off in a fully-plowed driveway or sidewalk.

Instructions

    • 1

Move your snowblower outdoors or to a well-ventilated location. Rotate the fuel adjustment valve on the front of the blower into the "On" position.

    • 2

Check the right and left levers, the traction and auger drives, to ensure that they're not depressed and are in the disengaged position.

    • 3

Move the speed selector lever, located in between the traction and auger drives, into the neutral, or "N," position.

    • 4

Push the ignition key completely into the key slot on the side of the snowblower.

    • 5

Rotate the choke knob to the right, if the snowblower hasn't been started recently and the engine is cold. Leave the choke knob in the middle or toward the left if your snowblower engine was started within the last couple of hours.

    • 6

Press the primer bulb, the round rubber knob on the side of the snowblower, two or three times for a cold engine or once for a warm or hot engine.

    • 7

Pull up on the starter handle, if you have a manually started snowblower, until the starter rope engages. Pull the handle to start the snowblower and continue pulling until it starts.

    • 8

Plug the electrical starter cord into the front of the snowblower, for an electrically started snowblower. Plug the opposite end of the power cord into an electrical outlet. Press on the starter button, just above the electrical cord, and wait for the snowblower to start. Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet before unplugging it from the snowblower.

    • 9

Rotate the choke knob completely to the left to turn the choke off. Adjust the throttle lever on the side of the snowblower up toward the rabbit for a fast engine speed or down to the turtle for a slower engine speed.
