My Meyers E-47 Plow Will Not Angle

The Meyer E-47 is an aftermarket snow plow designed for mounting on mid-size pickup trucks and four-wheel drive vehicles. The E-47 is suitable for medium-duty use in clearing light to moderate snowfall from driveways, parking lots and private roadways. The mounting kit installs quick-detach fittings on the vehicle frame for fast removal of the plow blade. A 1,650 p.s.i. hydraulic pump actuates the lift/lower and angling functions of the blade. All operations are controlled from the interior of the vehicle by a wired remote. Potential problems relating to the angle function of the plow blade include failure to angle left or right, failure to hold the selected angle and loss of hydraulic pressure.
  1. Plow Will Not Angle Left

    • Make sure the hydraulic pump motor is getting power and running. Check the wire connections at the molded power connector. Test for voltage at the angling switch. Inspect and clean hydraulic valve "C". If the blade raises instead of angling to the left when the left directional button on the remote control is pressed, inspect and clean hydraulic valve "B".

    Plow Will Not Angle Right

    • Make sure the hydraulic pump motor is getting power and running. Check the wire connections at the molded power connector. Test for voltage at the angling switch. If the blade will angle to the left, hold a metallic screwdriver up to the solenoid attached to the "C" coil and check for magnetism. If the "C" coil is functional, disassemble the "C" valve and evaluate the O-rings for leakage or wear. No magnetic response at the "C" coil indicates a defective coil, angling switch or defective or loose wiring connections.

    Plow Does Not Hold Angle

    • Manually push the plow blade back and forth. If it will move as much as 6 to 8 inches and the action feels mushy, bleed the hydraulic system to remove air. Tighten all the hydraulic fittings. If the blade feels mushy and releases from the right angle only but is secure in the left angle, first replace the pilot check ball and seat. If problem persists, replace the O-rings in the "C" valve.

    Hydraulic Pressure Leaks Down

    • If the plow drops and angles to the left, first replace the "B" check valve. If problems persists, replace the "B" valve. If the plow drops straight down with no angling, evaluate the condition of the O-rings in the "A" valve and replace if necessary. Check for free motion of the "A" valve and replace if necessary.
