DIY Roof Rake Painter's Pole

During the winter months, snow and ice build up on roofs in northern climes. If left unattended, the snow and ice buildup can lead to a leaking or collapsed roof. Removing the snow regularly with a roof rake will prevent the risk of these problems. But during peak times, roof rakes can be hard to find. When you find yourself with a roof full of snow and no roof rake, you can assemble your own with a few parts from your local home improvement or hardware store.

Instructions

    • 1

Select a telescoping painter's pole long enough to reach your roof from the ground. Two-section poles are available in lengths that reach up to 16 feet, while three-section poles are available in lengths that reach up to 24 feet.

    • 2

Fit a driveway squeegee to the screw portion of the painter's pole. If you can't find one that fits, purchase a PVC connector that fits both the pole and the squeegee handle.

    • 3

Spread epoxy inside both ends of the PVC connector, and insert the squeegee handle in one end and the painter's pole in the other. Let dry.
