How to Melt the Ice Over Doorways

If a doorway is not covered, winter ice will build up and make the door impossible to open or close. Snow left near a doorway can melt and re-freeze into ice. Getting rid of the ice is not a fun task, but it needs to be done. Gather a few tools and destroy the ice. Then take preventative measures before the next freeze.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug the heat gun into a socket as close to the doorway as possible. Point the heat gun at one area of the ice and 8 to 12 inches away.

    • 2

Turn the heat gun on and leave it pointing at the ice for 2 or 3 minutes. Turn off the heat gun and set it aside.

    • 3

Place the chisel against the area of ice that you just melted a little with the heat gun. Hit the handle of the chisel with the hammer to break up the ice.

    • 4

Toss the ice chunks away from the door. Do not leave them near the door.

    • 5

Repeat until all the ice is removed from the doorway.
