How to Change Belts on a Simplicity Pro Signature Series Snowblower

The P1524E is one of Simplicity's Signtature Series of professional two-stage snowthrowers. It is powered by a 4-cycle, 305 cc Briggs & Stratton engine with electric starting system and propelled by a drive train that includes five forward speeds and two reverse speeds. The intake of the P1524E is 20 inches high and the auger clears a path 24 inches wide. Simplicity's Signature series includes ergonomics such as push-button electric chute rotation and heated hand grips. The P1524E utilizes two belt drives. One belt propels the snowthrowing auger and the other drives the traction wheel.

Loosen the two cap screws that secure the belt guide and move the guide away from the belt.

    • 4

Push the auger belt away from the idler pulley, towards the rear, then remove it from the idler pulley.

    • 5

Take the auger belt off the engine pulley and slip it out from under the brake pad.

    • 6

Remove the two capscrews that secure the bottom cover to the snowblower frame. Unscrew the nuts that clamp the auger pulley belt stops. Move the belt stops and take the auger belt off the auger pulley.

Pull the idler belt away from the pulley and remove the belt from the pulley.

    • 10

Take the belt off the traction pulley and the engine pulley. Pivot the front idler pulley arm for clearance to remove the belt from the traction pulley.

    • 11

Remove the traction drive belt by pulling it out between the auger pulley and the traction pulley.

    Installation

    • 12

Reverse the removal procedure to install both belts.

    • 13

Adjust the belt stops to produce 1/8 inch of clearance between the belt and its stop.

    • 14

Verify that the auger stops when the auger drive is released. Verify that the traction drive stops when the traction drive is released. Follow manufacturer's procedure for auger/traction drive tension if either function is incorrect.
