An icy sidewalk is very dangerous and can pose a serious hazard for you and your family. Although a variety of chemical products are available for purchase in stores and online, you may make your own de-icer using simple household products. This homemade de-icer will not only melt threatening ice patches, but will also provide traction to help you avoid slips and falls.

• Empty trash can
• Rock salt
• Cat litter
