How to Troubleshoot Gas Snow Blowers & Clogging

Using a gas-powered snow blower to remove the snow from your driveway, sidewalks and patio makes snow removal a quick and easy job. However, not all types of snow moves well with these machines. If the snow is wet and heavy, your snow blower may experience problems removing the snow. As you operate the snow blower through the snow, you may encounter clogging in the augers that rotate inside the machine to pull in the snow for removal. When this happens, you must clear away the clog properly to ensure your safety.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the snow blower as soon as you realize it has become clogged. Proceeding with a clogged snow blower will not be effective and can harm the snow blower engine.

    • 2

Wait for all moving parts inside the machine to stop completely.

    • 3

Look inside the exit chute and in the front of the snow blower to check where the clog is located. A clog typically occurs in the front of the snow blower behind the augers, but can also appear in the chute.

    • 4

Use the clog removal tool that came with the snow blower or a thick stick to clear the snow from inside the snow blower.

Restart the snow blower and continue plowing the driveway. If it clogs again, you are probably trying to remove too much snow at one time.
