How to Make a Homemade Roof Snow Broom

During winters with heavy, wet snowfall, residents should worry about the stress on the roofs of homes and businesses. Snow removal tools are sold commercially with several different names -- snow broom, snow rake or snow cutter. The tool consists of a long handle and a flat blade at the end. Stand on the ground and thrust the blade up and onto the roof. Pull it towards you and the snow falls off. You can make a homemade roof snow broom for very little time and money and it works just as well as a manufactured snow broom.

Instructions

    • 1

Apply PVC glue to one end of the long pipe. Insert it into the PVC flange. Apply PVC glue to one end of the 8-inch PVC pipe and insert it into the PVC flange. Repeat with the other 8-inch pipe. Allow the glue to dry completely, about 5 minutes. It will look like a "T" made of PVC pipe.

    • 2

Lay the "T" on the ground. Hold the wood up so that the bottom of it aligns with the flat part of the flange. Use the drill to screw in one wood screw into the center of the flange. Continue placing screws through the wood and into the PVC pipe, about 3 inches apart. Ensure that the corners of the wood are screwed into the small PVC pipes on each end of the flange.

Flip the snow rake over by the handle and shake it to ensure the wood is attached securely to the PVC flange and that there are no gaps.
