How to Reinstall the Float Valve Assembly on a Snowblower Engine

A snowblower engine has a float valve to regulate fuel transfer from the fuel tank to the carburetor float bowl. When the fuel level in the bowl drops, the float drops with it and the valve opens. As the bowl fills, the float rises to shut off the flow of fuel. The cycle repeats itself over and over as the engine continues to run. If you have removed your snowblower's float valve to make repairs or for cleaning, you probably already know enough basic small-engine carburetor know-how to reinstall it properly. But it's good to have a refresher.

Instructions

    • 1

Attach the float valve retaining clip to the recess at the top of the float valve. Slide the clip onto the recess by hand until it snaps into place. The valve is tapered to a point on the end opposite the recess and flat on the sides.

    • 2

Connect the float valve clip to the float assembly. Insert the open end of the valve clip through the flat brass strap located above the float mounting hinges. Make sure the open end of the clip points toward the intake, or choke end, of the carburetor.

    • 3

Lower the float valve assembly into position. The tapered end of the valve enters into its seat first, followed by the hinges of the float.

    • 4

Line up the hinges with the flange holes in the carburetor.

    • 5

Insert the steel hinge pin into either end of the carburetor flanges, through the hinge holes of the float and into the flange on the other end.

    • 6

Check the float for ease of movement by raising it up slightly and down again. The float valve will travel up and down within its seat as the float is moved.
