Adjust the snow rake handle to a length that is manageable in extreme weather because it might be difficult to maneuver the tool during high winds.
Set the rake on top of the roof edge and push it up until you don't have any more handle to work with. Stay at least 4 feet from the roof edge so snow does not fall on top of you.
Grasp the snow rake handle with both hands and pull it down the roof. Avoid bouncing or banging the rake on the roof, which could damage the shingles.
Stop pulling the rake when it reaches the edge of the roof. Continue raking the rest of the roof in the same manner until it is clear of snow.
