How to Glue Down Roofing

When roofing shingles age, they can crack, crumble or begin to curl up at the edges. While cracked shingles often need replacing, curled shingles can be more easily repaired. By gluing down the shingles firmly to the roof, you can eliminate unsightly shingles and prevent water damage to your home. Thankfully for homeowners, repairing these curled shingles a a very basic task that can take as little as 30 minutes to accomplish.

Things You'll Need

  • Roofing sealant
  • Caulking gun
  • Utility blade
  • Brick

Instructions

      Insert a tube of roofing sealant into a caulking gun. Carefully cut the tip of the tube off at approximately 45 degrees.

      Lift the corner of the curling shingles with one hand, then apply a dab of roofing sealant underneath the shingle.

      Force the shingle down onto the sealant firmly.

      Place a standard red brick on top of the shingle and leave it in place for at least 24 hours while the sealant fully dries.
