How to Fix Gutter Clips

You need to install gutter clips need at regular intervals along the length of your guttering to keep it in place and prevent sagging. Install the clips on a downward slope ending at the down pipe to ensure effective drainage. Old clips, often made of iron, rot over time but modern PVC gutter clips last much longer.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose the position of the first clip. It needs to be under the roof line high on the fascia board. Make sure that the clip is straight and level and mark the position of the screws. Drill the holes and screw in the first gutter clip.

    • 2

Hold a gutter clip in position at the down pipe end of the fascia board and mark where the screws will go. This second clip needs to be lower than the first and just by the down pipe. Drill the holes and screw the gutter clip in place.

    • 3

Tie a length of string between the 2 clips and pull it taut. Use the level to make sure that the line is running towards the down pipe.

    • 4

Screw further gutter clips along the length of the string at regular intervals. Place the clips no more than 3 feet apart. Use the string as a guide to make sure that the gutter pipe will sit properly. Make sure that every clip is straight and in line with the rest before you screw it into the fascia board.
