How to Clean Mold on a Tile Roof

Roof mold grows when moisture accumulates on the tiles. Mold is not only unsightly but is a health hazard. It can cause allergic reactions, as well as fungal infections, in both humans and pets. Roofs under the shade of large trees can be susceptible to mold growth as it thrives in shaded and darkened environments. Spores from mold can easily travel from a roof to the yard, garage and into a home. Once you spot mold, take steps to remove it.

Instructions

    • 1

Hook a pressure washer to a garden hose. Put on eye protection, gloves and a dust mask. Turn the pressure washer on and blast the debris off the tile roof to get to the mold.

    • 2

Mix oxygen bleach powder with water in a spray bottle or bucket according to the manufacturer's mixing instructions. Do not use chlorine bleach as it may cause stains to sit in the tiled roofing material. Liberally coat the roof mold with the solution and let it soak in for 15 to 20 minutes.

Scrub the roof mold vigorously with a stiff-bristled brush. Set the pressure washer to a low setting and blast the cleaned tile area occasionally. Repeat applications as necessary until the mold comes out of the roofing material. Continue to use the pressure washer for best results.
