How to Attach Copper Flashing to Bricks

Copper flashing is very durable and helps ensure the roof overhang remains waterproof. Properly installing the copper flashing to the brick chimney or other brick structure on the roof ensures the water does not enter the brick wall. Many people wrongly open holes and try to screw the flashing to the brick, causing water to leak through the screw holes. With the right supplies and directions you will be able to install the copper flashing properly with no risk of water leak.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the copper flashing with the tape measure and cut it to size with the tin snips.

    • 2

Bend the edges around the copper flashing with the flashing brake. Read the flashing brake manual for instructions on how to use it properly, as it can vary significantly depending on the model used.

    • 3

Put caulking on the inside of the copper flashing and push it into the brick chimney. Ensure the flashing is flush against the brick chimney.

    • 4

Seal the edge between the brick chimney and the copper flashing with the caulking. You can now continue to install the finished roofing material over the bottom of the flashing.
