Many roofers work nearly 12-months a year, tackling roofing projects in all types of weather. However, if you move through the re-roofing process when conditions are poor you may increase your chances of having to deal with a leak while the re-roofing is taking place or of the overall quality of your roof being lower than it would have been had the weather been better. Ideally, you should re-roof when there is little rain and the temperature is between 50 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit.
If you live in a location where the weather changes from season to season, you should undertake your re-roofing project during the moderate seasons – spring and fall. Spring is the best time for re-roofing as the weather is generally mild. Fall is your second best option. The only risk you run when waiting for fall to re-roof is the onset of early winter, an unwelcomed event that could leave your roofers working in brisk weather.
Winter, particularly in locations where snow falls, is a poor time for re-roofing. Generally, roofers do not roof when there is snow resting on the roof. This means that if your roofers start they may have to pause in the re-roofing should an unexpected snow arrive. Summer, a season that would seem conducive to roofing, is also a poor choice as excessive heat can soften materials and cause your roofing materials to break up while being applied to the roof.
The season in which you elect to roof may also have an impact on your roofing bill. While waiting until the end of fall may present a risk, it may also prove cost-saving as many companies will offer discounts at this time of year as business becomes harder to come by.
Though some seasons aren’t particularly conducive to re-roofing, you can complete this task in any weather. If your roof starts to leak or shingles blow off, re-roofing immediately is the best choice even if this leaves you re-roofing during a less-than-ideal season.
