How to Fix a Crack in Clay Roof Tile if They Don't Make It Anymore

Although colorful clay roofing tile has a modern appeal, clay tiles aren't a recent invention. Ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans all used clay tiles for architectural roofing. The widespread availability of clay tiles, however, does not guarantee that the same tiles you had installed on your roof years ago will still be available for purchase. The National Association of REALTORS notes that when a clay tile breaks, it's best to remove and replace the tile. If you do not have a matching replacement tile, you can fix the crack with epoxy.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a small plastic bucket with soapy water and a sponge. Climb up onto the roof.

    • 2

Scrub the surface of the broken tile with the soapy sponge. Remove as much dirt and grime as possible. Let the tile dry.

    • 3

Put on protective gloves. Epoxy is a strong irritant and must not come in contact with your skin.

    • 4

Blend the epoxy resin and hardener according to the manufacturer's directions. Spread the epoxy glue on the edges of the broken tile with a craft stick.

    • 5

Push the broken pieces together. Hold the broken tile in place for 90 seconds.
