Sealing Roofs on Motor Homes

Very few motor homes, which are usually the most expensive and luxurious varieties, have a solid one-piece roof. Others have a large seam in the roof that prevents water from leaking. Over time, the seam will be exposed to rain, snow, sun and wind and thus will begin to lose its ability to prevent leaks. Seal the motor home roof with motor home sealer as soon as you notice any water or excessive condensation inside your motor home.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a bucket with hot water. Add 1 tablespoon liquid dish soap to the bucket and mix until the water is sudsy.

    • 2

Dip a sponge into the soapy water and scrub the entire motor home roof. Be careful when doing this so you don’t slide or fall off the roof. Scrub until the roof is completely clean.

    • 3

Rinse the roof with clear water from a hose. Let the roof dry completely for several hours.

    • 4

Dip a paintbrush into motor home sealant and paint it directly on top of the motor home roof. Work from one end of the roof toward the other. Paint one thin coat of sealant on the roof and let it dry completely. Depending on the sealant and the weather, each coat should take anywhere from 20 minutes to several hours.

    • 5

Apply another two coats of the sealant, letting each coat dry completely for several hours.
