Remove any loose dirt or debris from the roof with a broom or dust mop. The sealant won’t effectively adhere to the roof if there is any impediment -- including dirt, mold or other organic material.
Cover the roof’s valley first with an 18-inch-wide strip of the roofing material. Lay the material vertically across the valley and secure it to the roof with 2- to 3-inch galvanized nails spaced approximately six inches apart.
Apply a 2-inch-wide layer of roofing cement across the roof’s eave with a paintbrush. Unroll the first piece of roofing material vertically across the roof, paying attention that the edges of the eave and product line up exactly.
Attach this first chunk of rolled material to the roof with galvanized nails spaced approximately three to six inches apart.
Apply a 1- to 2-inch layer of roofing cement across the edge of the first piece of installed rolled roofing with the paintbrush. Roll out the next section of roofing material, paying attention that it overlaps the adjacent section at least three inches.
Secure this piece with the galvanized nails at 3- to 6-inch intervals. Repeat this process until the roof’s peak is reached. Once the peak is reached, head over to the other side of the roof and begin the process again at the alternate eave.
Apply a 2-inch layer of roofing cement around the edges of the roofing to create a seal.
