Clean the vinyl around the hole with a solution of liquid dish soap and water and let it dry completely. Wipe the edges around the hole with isopropyl alcohol to remove any substances that might prevent the patch from sticking properly. Let the surface dry before proceeding.
Cut a section of roof patch tape or aluminum sealer tape to a size that overlaps the hole by 1 inch on all sides. Peel off the sticky backing on the covering and apply it over the hole. Press the tape firmly in place along all the edges.
Caulk around the edges of the patch with roof patch caulk and spread a layer over the top of the patch with a Popsicle stick to apply it evenly. An all-weather silicone caulk will also work if you are unable to find a roof patch caulk. Let the caulk dry completely.
Clean the vinyl around the hole by wiping it with isopropyl alcohol to remove any buildup or residue on the surface.
Sew the tear or hole closed with a slip-stitch, using a needle and polyester or nylon thread.
Apply a flexible roof patch caulk or vinyl caulk over the stitched area to seal the stitching together and prevent leaks. Let the caulk dry completely before driving the vehicle or exposing it to rain.
