Determine the location of your roof rafters. Rafters are evenly spaced, so once you know the location of two rafters, you can measure from these to know where all the rafters are located. You want to install your turbines between rafters.
Climb onto your roof and make your way to the location of your first turbine. This should be between two rafters, 12 to 18 inches down from the peak of the roof. Measure the base of your wind turbine and mark off a space that size with chalk on your roof shingles.
Cut away the roof shingles with a utility knife, following your chalk outline. Cut away the rest of the roofing material, into the attic, with a saber saw.
Apply a thin layer of roofing cement to the collar of the wind turbine. Fit the base of the turbine into the hole you cut.
Lift up the roofing shingles around the base of the turbine and slip the edge of the turbine flashing underneath the shingles.
Nail the turbine in place with the roofing nails. Cover each roofing nail with more roofing cement.
Fit the turbine onto the base. Attach the turbine to the base with the sheet metal screws provided with the turbine.
