Measure the length of the gable with a measuring tape. Start at the house’s wall and measure to the outermost tip on the gable on the roof. The gable is the arch, or triangle point, of the roof where you will install the support bracket. Use a ladder and have an assistant hold the ladder in place for your safety.
Take another measurement from the top of the roof down the wall to the desired length of the support bracket. Mark on the wall where the measurement ends. You will be able to find the slope from the tip of the roof to the mark made from the roof top down the house’s wall.
Take another measurement from the outermost tip of the roof, at a downward-sloped angle, to the house’s wall, if desired. Depending on how steep you want the slope to be, direct the measuring tape in that direction instead of making the measurement from Step 2. There are decorative brackets that come preattached to form a desired measurement already. If you already have the bracket, ensure that it is the appropriate length from the tip of the roof to the house’s wall and that it does not interfere if you have a window on that wall.
Measure the bracket that you have to ensure a proper fit.
Line the bracket up to the desired location. Line the bracket up from the outermost tip of the roof gable to the house’s wall. Mark where the holes in the bracket are along the roof’s top and house’s wall to mark where you will need to drill.
Drill into the roof with a wood drill bit, and then the concrete wall with a concrete drill bit.
Line the bracket back up to the holes that you drilled and screw the bracket into place.
