Ideas for Joining Two Uneven Roofs

Uneven roofs sometimes result from the building process. This is especially true for those who may decide to do a building project or addition on their own, rather than going through a qualified contractor. While this might cause some added stress to the process of finishing the building project, it need not be the source of too much consternation. Several different possible solutions to the problem exist.

  1. Overlapping Shingles

    • Overlapping shingles can provide a suitable solution for the uneven roof problem on homes that have an existing shingle roof. The overlapping shingles can be arranged in such a way that the outcome appears to be as if you intended to arrange the shingles that way from the outset. This type of arrangement will work with a variety of shingle types. In some cases, it may not be feasible to make the roof look decorative, but some careful planning will go far towards creating an acceptable look.

    Custom Trusses

    • Custom-made trusses can be another effective way to connect an uneven roof. These are generally made out of wood and can be made to fit just about any type of roof space. Trusses are generally an economical and structurally sound way to shore up an unevenness in a roof and close any existing gaps that may exist.

    Skylight

    • An uneven roof that results in a significant gap may provide occasion to install a skylight that will give you an unobstructed view of the night sky. While this will not necessarily be one of the least expensive or least complicated ways to go about joining an uneven roof, it can be one of the more innovative and decorative ways to do it. Weatherproofing and sealing will be essential to prevent leaks and drafts from getting into the home below.

    Solar Panels

    • You can also increase the energy efficiency of your home, while shoring up the gaps in your uneven roof by adding solar panels to the roof. Solar panels can be fairly simple to install and can cover up significant gaps in the uneven roof. They can also provide a decorative feel to the roof, if installed correctly.
