Locate the water pressure regulator inside the utility access panel, basement or crawl space. The brass regulator sits on the main water line near where it enters the house from the street.
Unscrew the lock nut near the top of the regulator using pliers. Turn the nut counterclockwise several times until the nut is loose. It is not necessary to remove the nut, however.
Turn the adjustment screw on the top of the water pressure regulator clockwise using a screwdriver. Turn the screw to the desired pressure level as indicated by the printed gauge below the screw. In most cases, setting the screw to the 80 psi mark will provide enough pressure for all the appliances in your home.
Run the shower and flush the toilet at the same time to check the new setting. Tighten the lock nut when the desired pressure level is set.
