Plumbing Fixture Carrier Types

Carrier supports are used in plumbing to keep toilet fixtures off the floor. The support consists of steel studs that protrude from the wall and hold the weight of the fixture. Advantages of having no part of the toilet touching the floor include ease of installation, ease of maintenance, aesthetics and sanitation.
  1. Installation and Maintenance

    • Floor-mounted toilet fixtures require cutting into the floor. In multiple storied buildings, this often requires building a false ceiling to hide the waste pipes. With off-the-floor installation, all the pipes are hidden behind a wall. The result is easier and less expensive installation. Maintenance is easier since all the plumbing is contained behind a wall and repairs/replacement do not require cutting into a floor.

    Sanitation

    • Off-the-floor fixtures make it easier to maintain a clean environment. They have no base edges that require cleaning around because there is no contact between the fixture and the floor.

    Plate Type Carriers

    • Plate type carriers are wall mounted or floor mounted and are used with fixtures that have a hanger plate support, such as urinals. Styles include single plate, double plate and heavy duty.

    Concealed Arm Carriers

    • Concealed arm carriers can be wall mounted or floor mounted. They are used with fixtures that have been drilled for the concealed arms. With arms available in multiple length, concealed arm carriers are suitable for use with handicap accessible fixtures.
