How to Adjust a Touchless Faucet

Touchless faucets use an infrared sensor to provide a hands-free method of drawing water. To operate the faucet, simply place your hands under the water spout. The built-in infrared sensor activates the water flow until you move your hands away. The water temperature is controlled by a mixing valve under the sink. The valve is connected to both the hot and cold water supply lines and is adjustable. Once the temperature is set on the mixing valve, the faucet will always deliver water at that temperature. You can adjust your touchless faucet in 10 minutes with basic do-it-yourself skills.

Instructions

    • 1

Find the water mixing valve for your touchless faucet. You can identify the mixer by its three pipe connections.

    • 2

Loosen the temperature adjustment lever retaining screw using a Phillips screwdriver. The screw is secured within the slotted section of the lever.

    • 3

Turn the adjuster lever to the full "Hot" position. Have a helper activate the faucet by placing his hand between the sensor near the base of the faucet and the flow of water from the spout. Allow the hot water to run for approximately 30 seconds to ensure it reaches its peak temperature.

    • 4

Check the temperature of the water by placing a cooking thermometer in a drinking glass and filling it with hot water. A temperature range of approximately 120 to 130 degrees is common; however, your own setting at the tap can be adjusted to suit your needs.

    • 5

Turn the lever on the mixer valve slowly and in small increments toward "Cold" as the water continues to flow, until the desired temperature is reached.

    • 6

Tighten the lever retaining screw clockwise with the screwdriver.
