Widespread faucets feature two handles for mixing hot and colder water. Similar to center-set faucets, the two handles of a widespread faucets flank both sides of the faucet's spout. But unlike center-set faucets, the handles of the widespread variety have their own sink ports apart from the spout. If you need to replace a damaged or leaky handle from your Kohler widespread faucet set, you can disassemble the handles yourself.

Close the hot and cold water valves beneath your sink -- turn both valves clockwise until they stop turning.

Lift the old handles up and away from the sink, revealing the spline adapter and screw combination beneath each handle.

Remove both of the faucet's two spline adapters from the handle mounts to reveal the screws beneath.

Use a wrench to remove the nuts from the underside of each faucet mount and complete the deconstruction of your faucet's handles.
